Bro. Al's Reading List 2014
From Februrary 9, 2014, Lifeline
OK. It’s time for my annual Reading List suggestions. I will try to limit this to my best recommendations.
[KEY: S - Book; E - eBook; AB - Audio Book]
Torn Asunder: Recovering from an Extramarital Affair, by David Corder [S,E]
Real Marriage, by Mark and Grace Driscoll [S,E,AB]
I try to always be reading a biography. One of my grad school professors told me, "History is biography." The best ones this year are:
I Invented the Modern Age: the Rise of Henry Ford, by Richard Snow [S]
Titan: the Life of John D. Rockefeller, Sr., by Ron Chernow [S]
Theology and Spirituality:
Gods at War, by Kyle Idleman [S,E]
The Question That Never Goes Away, by Philip Yancey (the problem of evil) [S,E]
Strange Fire, by John MacArthur (A book I take deep issue with, but still a must read for Christian leaders.) [S,E]
What Every Christian Needs to Know About the Qur'an, by James White (exellent and readable) [S,E]
The Devil's Delusion: Atheism and Its Scientific Pretensions, by David Berlinski (on the new atheists) [S,E]
Decisive: How to Make Better Choices in Life and Work, by Chip and Dan Heath [S]
Guns, Germs, and Steel: the Fates of Human Societies, by Jared Diamond [S]
David and Goliath: Underdogs and the Art of Breeding Giants, by Malcolm Gladwell [S]
The single, best book of the year:
Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, by Brene Brown (A sociologist discusses the hindrances that keep us from fulfilling our destiny.) [S,AB]
Sermon CDs are available for purchase (@ $3.00). CDs are available for checkout. Ask at the Library Desk.
